White Rock Rowing took on the Dogwood Junior Championship in Oakridge, TN this past weekend, proving we are a program to watch as we head toward Nationals.
Key Results: Boys U16 8+ (2nd), Girls Youth 4- (3rd), Boys U17 8+ (4th)
The Big Win: Boats advanced from every time trial to a final, an incredible display of consistency across the whole team.
Next Stop: We carry this momentum into Regionals next weekend.
As one of the premier junior rowing events in the country, Dogwood consistently draws top programs from across the U.S. and serves as an early benchmark against crews that will be contending at the USRowing Youth National Championships later this season.
Racing began Friday with time trials, where crews had to qualify for semifinals and finals, making every stroke count from the very first race. This format rewards both speed and composure, and our athletes rose to the challenge.
On Friday, the girls U17 2x delivered a great performance, finishing 8th out of 28 entries, a strong result in a deep field and a great start to the weekend.
Saturday showed the strength and depth of the team. Every event White Rock entered had a boat qualify through the time trials to advance into either a Grand Final or Petit Final, an impressive accomplishment at an event of this caliber. Highlighting the day, our Boys U16 8+ put together an exceptional piece, winning their time trial and advancing to the Grand Final as the top seed, setting themselves up as a crew to watch heading into finals.
Sunday’s finals delivered some exciting racing and big results. The Boys U16 8+ capped off their weekend with a 2nd place finish in the Grand Final, missing gold by just 1.5 seconds in a thrilling race. The Girls Youth 4- brought home bronze medals in a fast, competitive event, while the Boys U17 8+ had a strong showing, finishing 4th in the Grand Final, just outside of the medals against top-tier competition.
Across the board, this regatta was a major step forward for the group. Competing head-to-head with some of the fastest programs in the country and seeing progression from time trials through finals is exactly what we want at this point in the season. It sets the stage well as we head into the Central Youth Championships, our regional qualifier for Nationals, next weekend.
Part of our youth team flew out of Dallas early Friday morning and returned Sunday night, taking on a full weekend of high-level racing. It was a great test of not just speed, but focus, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure. We’re proud of how this group competed and excited to carry this momentum forward.
